And then there was a coffee company named Intelligentsia… with more barista championships than one can shake a stick at, these guys are easily at the top of their game. Needless to say, when I had 38 hours in Los Angeles, it was the numero uno place I had to go.
They opened their Silverlake coffee bar last summer, and my brother-blog and LA resident, Chocolate Meats admitted he almost cried when he heard the news.
Now let’s just cut to the chase: it was the best cappuccino of my life.
They pull all shots with their single-origin Black Cat espresso… fucking incredible. It’s like roasted hazelnuts with a drop of caramelized raw sugar. Ugh. Sadly there is no photo of my cappuccino due to the tight schedule we were on that particular Saturday morning. The creamy foam (organic and out of a glass pitcher no less) was a perfect velvet cloud that allowed me to momentarily leave reality and drift into a blissful coffee trance. When I came back to consciousness the sky was clear and my body was humming. Oh, and I was surrounded by two of my favorite people on the planet; I’m telling you, it’s magic.
The coffee drink of my girlfriend and brother blogger was equally as mind blowing. It goes by the humble name, “Angeleno” and consists of rich iced coffee, milk, agave and is aggressively shaken and strained in a glass. If you’re picturing a divine coffee martini, you’ve got the idea. Oh, I hope the shops up here in Portland try this some day.
